Editorial policy

The standards that govern how BankOfferScout researches, writes, reviews, monetizes and corrects U.S. banking content.

Editorial standard

Our editorial work is designed to explain the decision, not to reproduce the advertisement. Product mechanics, costs, eligibility and limitations matter even when they make a headline offer less attractive.

Core editorial principles

  • Primary sources first. Important banking facts should be traceable to the institution or relevant authority.
  • Separate facts from interpretation. We distinguish what a bank says from our editorial analysis of the tradeoff.
  • Do not freeze volatile facts without context. Rates and promotions change; current numbers need dates and live-source verification.
  • No universal winner when fit is conditional. A product can be strong for one use case and poor for another.
  • Disclose material commercial relationships. Advertising or affiliate compensation should not be hidden from the reader.
  • Correct confirmed errors. Editorial pride is not a reason to preserve a wrong statement.

Independence from advertisers and partners

Editorial coverage is not sold as a favorable review. Compensation may support the publication, but it does not guarantee inclusion, a particular position, a positive verdict or suppression of material disadvantages. A bank or partner may provide factual documentation; it does not control our final interpretation.

How we cover offers and promotions

Promotional coverage should explain the full qualification path rather than repeat the headline bonus. That can include new-customer rules, direct-deposit or funding requirements, timing windows, account fees, retention requirements, payout timing and what happens after the promotion ends. We do not assume a promotion is live because it existed historically.

How we cover savings and CD rates

Rates are time-sensitive. A current APY may be useful when it is dated and sourced, but an undated APY can quickly become misinformation. We therefore combine live-source checks with evergreen analysis of balance requirements, liquidity, penalties, maturity rules and the reader's intended holding period.

How we write comparisons

Bank comparisons are organized around dimensions that can matter to different users: branch access, digital access, account fees, product range, savings economics, CD options, payment functionality, business banking, geographic availability and operational friction. We avoid manufacturing a single winner where the correct choice depends on the reader's needs.

Editorial Verdicts

Research articles end with an Editorial Verdict. The verdict summarizes the decision logic developed in the article: who may reasonably shortlist the product or approach, what could undermine the value, and what should be verified before acting. A verdict is editorial analysis, not individualized financial advice and not a guarantee that a reader will qualify.

Bylines and review

Pages use organizational editorial desks rather than fabricated individual profiles. Topic ownership and review are separated where possible: the responsible desk develops the research file, while the Research Standards Desk checks source quality, attribution, update dates, consistency and correction handling.

Use of software and AI-assisted workflows

We may use software and AI-assisted workflows for research organization, drafting support, structured-data generation, link validation, duplication checks, large-scale quality control and maintenance. These tools do not change the editorial requirement that material factual claims—especially current banking terms—be checked against primary or authoritative sources. Automated output is not treated as a source by itself.

Reviews, rankings and sponsored content

BankOfferScout does not publish disguised sponsored editorial. If sponsored content is ever introduced, it should be clearly labeled as sponsored or advertising and visually distinguishable from independent research. Paid placement should not be described as an independent editorial ranking.

Conflicts of interest

People or organizations contributing to BankOfferScout should not knowingly allow a personal financial relationship, compensation arrangement or outside obligation to determine a factual conclusion. When a material relationship could affect how a reasonable reader interprets a recommendation or endorsement, disclosure is the default.

Updates and corrections

Our visible review dates, source blocks and correction process are intended to make maintenance observable. See Sources & Methodology and the Corrections Policy for the detailed standards.

Editorial independence does not mean infallibility. Banking terms can change and research can contain errors. Readers should use our work as a research aid and verify live terms directly with the provider.
